Seasons, the points race and awards

Each session night is scored like a mini-tournament. The full points ladder, the tie-break, the eligibility bar for MVP, and the season awards.

How a night scores

Each completed club session is treated as a mini-tournament. Everyone who played that night is ranked by their win rate for the night, and that finishing position awards a fixed number of points. The season standing is the running total.

The rule

Nightly rank is by win rate, and point difference breaks ties. Every position past eighth scores the final step, so turning up and playing is worth a point regardless of results. Not attending scores zero — a standing cannot be defended from the sofa.

This replaced a season-long rating ladder after a review in 2026. Three things drove it: the best possible night is capped at ten points so one exceptional evening cannot decide a season, absence genuinely costs you, and "four points behind with two sessions left" is a sentence that can be read at a glance courtside.

Every season is ranked this way, including seasons played before the race was introduced in 2026. Season awards already given are kept as they were awarded.

The all-time club board ranks by skill rating. The two answer different questions and are never combined.

Season MVP

At the end of a season the top eligible player takes a permanent Season MVP award on their profile. Eligibility exists so the award cannot be won on a handful of well-chosen appearances.

The rule

To be eligible a player needs at least 10 games in the season, and must have attended at least 40% of the club's completed sessions that season — with a floor of 2 sessions, so a short season still has a real bar rather than a trivial one. The award goes to the eligible player highest in the race; ties are broken by wins, then skill rating, then games played.

The season board shows everyone who has banked a night. Players short of the bar are still on it — they just cannot take the award yet.

Eligibility is assessed on the whole season, not on recent form. Someone who qualified and then stopped attending can still win it, and a past season's winner keeps the award even if they are no longer active today.

Ever present

One other award sits alongside MVP: Ever present, for attending every completed session in the season.

The rule

Every qualifier wins it. There is nothing to rank and no tie to break — three people with a full house have all done the same thing.

It is deliberately the only companion award. Most improved and best win rate were both tried and dropped: they kept landing on the same person as MVP. Attendance is the one axis that reliably picks someone else.
